Markus Winter interior design stagecraft
I build deeply intimate spaces. My design and restoration services are grounded in profound historical knowledge and material understanding. I design interiors, furniture, landscapes, land art, and installations; curate collections; and develop design concepts. I focus on providing my clients with an environment that serves as a tool to help them see their relationship with themselves as central and celebrate it with their surroundings. These are spaces in which presence becomes possible.

My knowledge is practical; I understand materials through touch and listening. I studied interior design in Hanover and fine art at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. I also studied philosophy and hold a master’s degree in art history. Since the mid-1990s, I have worked in antiques, restoration, trade, and spatial design. In 1996, I designed my first interior. In 2002, I worked for Doris Leslie Blau in New York. In 2004, I opened my gallery, Markus Winter, in Berlin, where I exhibited the work of contemporary artists, including Rashid Johnson. Around that time, I also founded Lampedo, a secondary market gallery. Becoming a Reiki master in 2017 allowed me to integrate spiritual awareness into my work. As an interior designer and dealer, I have worked with pieces by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Oskar Kaufmann, and Gio Ponti. I have curated exhibitions on Ico Parisi and Guglielmo Ulrich. I am the co-author, with Don Freeman, of the book Berlin Deko.
